Many taxpayers have experienced scammers impersonating IRS officials. Don’t be a victim.

The IRS will never:

  • Call to demand payment using specific payment methods such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. The IRS will first mail you a bill for taxes owed.
  • Make threats to bring in law-enforcement to have you arrested for not paying.
  • Demand that you pay taxes without giving you a chance to appeal the amount they say you owe.
  • Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
